Oglala Lakota Treaty Flag

The bandana contains the Oglala Sioux Tribal flag and is surrounded by the 1868 Fort Laramie Treaty. The 1868 Fort Laramie Treaty is the formal treaty made between the Lakota people and the United States Government which establishes the legal rights and sovereignty of the Oglala Sioux Tribe as well as the rest of the Lakota Nation. The treaty is represented, legibly, in its entirety, to act as an aesthetic, functional, and educational art object. The Lakota people have historically adorned themselves with art as a form of aesthetic engagement and this bandana is a continuation of those values and traditions. These bandanas are a tangible symbol of the rights and resolve of the Lakota people.
